Asesorados por tres "guías", que pueden ver el destino de cada persona nacida en la aldea, nadie cuestiona su propósito en la comunidad. Todos se identifican plenamente con su misión predestinada, y, durante siglos, el equilibrio y la armonía prevalecieron, como si hubiesen sido un regalo de las fuerzas del universo. Hasta que un día nació un niño, un niño que no hablaba. Su comportamiento era desconcertante e inusual, y su propósito era desconocido. El niño no encajaba en la comunidad y, a medida que crecía, la armonía en el pueblo comenzaba a disolverse misteriosamente. La gente comenzaba a perder el amor por sus tareas como si hubiesen sido hechizados y, por primera vez, los guías estaban ciegos.
