Hartmann hingegen versuchte eine Synthese aus Aspekten der Philosophien Schopenhauers, Leibnitz', Schellings und Hegels und schuf damit sein philosophisches Hauptwerk „Philosophie des Unbewussten".Susanna Rubinstein führt den Leser inhaltlich fundiert an die Denkweise der drei deutschen Philosophen heran.
