Studierte Germanistik und Philosophie und unterrichtete, nach einem Zwischenspiel als Assistent an der Universität Düsseldorf, an einem Koblenzer Gymnasium. 1988 erhielt er aus der Hand des rheinland-pfälzischen Kultusministers den Fachinger Kulturpreis für seinen Brief an Goethe. Er veröffentlichte bis heute 35 Bücher.
