Fachbuch aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Methodologie und Methoden, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Wissenschaftsbezeichnung Soziologie wurde erstmals 1839 von Auguste Comte zur eindeutigen Bezeichnung jener Wissenschaft eingeführt, die "sich auf das positive Studium der sämtlichen sozialen Erscheinungen zugrundeliegenden Gesetze bezieht."Ausgehend von dieser Kennzeichnung der Wissenschaft als Soziologie, also als Sociologie, d.h. Wissenschaft des Sozialen zu sein, muss es nicht wenigen Studenten der Soziologie als ebenso kurios wie fragwürdig erscheinen, wenn einer ihrer heutigen Professoren als Verfasser eines Lehrbuches der Soziologie die Frage "Was ist Soziologie?" wie folgt zu beantworten beginnt: "Die Soziologie ist ein schwieriges Fach und Soziologen sind gewöhnlich nur in wenigen Dingen einer Meinung. Aber die in der Überschrift dieses Kapitels (Was ist Soziologie?) gestellte Frage dürften die meisten von ihnen einhellig beantworten: Sie dürften, wie Raymond Boudon unter Berufung auf Raymond Aron vermutet „in einem Punkt übereinstimmen: in der Schwierigkeit, die Soziologie zu definieren."Dieses tatsächlich allen Soziologen bekannte Problem ist kein Zufall, sondern die unausweichliche Folge des den Soziologen eigenen Unvermögens, das Wesen der sozialen Erscheinungen und damit auch das des Sozialen zu erfassen. Weniger provokant formulierte dagegen Max Weber letztere Feststellung so:"Es ist nun kein Zufall, dass der Begriff des Sozialen, der einen ganz allgemeinen Sinn zu haben scheint, sobald man ihn auf seine Verwendung hin kontrolliert, stets eine durchaus spezifisch gefärbte Bedeutung in sich trägt; das „allgemeine" beruht bei ihm tatsächlich in nichts anderem als eben in seiner Unbestimmtheit. Er bietet eben, wenn man ihn in seiner allgemeinen Bedeutung nimmt, keinerlei spezifische Gesichtspunkte", unter denen man die Bedeutung bestimmter Kulturelemente beleuchten könnte."Webers Feststellung, dass der
