Aus den Ergebnissen wurden 21 Strukturmerkmale abgeleitet, diese waren Grundlage für die Entwicklung eines Modells.Das Modell zeigt Arbeiterkind.de als eine Community mit zentraler Steuerung und teilstrukturiertem Angebot. Charakteristisch dafür sind die mitgliedergetriebene Aktivitäten, eine hohe Durchlässigkeit und die nur schwach ausgeprägte zentrale Steuerung. Von einer traditionellen Mentoring-Initiative unterscheidet sich Arbeiterkind.de vor allem durch das Fehlen eines strukturiertes Mentoring-Programms.Weitere Strukturmerkmale sind die offene Gemeinschaft, dezentrale Organisation in Ortsgruppen, web-2.0-basierte Kommunikation und eine moderate zentrale Steuerung. Der Mentoren-Begriff ist sehr weit gefasst: Abeiterkind.de versteht darunter jede Art von Engagement in der Initiative. Neben 1:1-Mentoring-Beziehungen sind informelle Beratungs-Situationen die Regel. Die Angebote im Netzwerk richten sich jeweils an Mentees und Mentoren.
