Gegenstand des Bandes ist die 2008 restaurierte, um 1350 entstandene ‚Jenaer Liederhandschrift, die bedeutendste Handschrift zur Überlieferung deutscher Sangspruchdichtung und ihrer Melodien. Der Band enthält Beiträge zur Restaurierung selbst, zu Fragen der sprachgeschichtlichen und literaturhistorischen Situierung, zur Einrichtung des Codex und zu seiner Notationspraxis. Darüber hinaus dokumentiert er diejenigen handschriftlichen Fragmente, die auf Grund ihres Sprachstandes und ihrer Texte in der Forschung in einen entstehungsgeschichtlichen Zusammenhang mit der ‚Jenaer Liederhandschrift' gebracht worden sind.
