Die Pazzi-Verschwörung war eine Verabredung nicht nur innerhalb des Florentiner Patriziats, die herrschende Familie Medici durch die Ermordung ihres Oberhaupts Lorenzo il Magnifico und seines Bruders und Mitregenten Giuliano di Piero de' Medici als De-facto-Regenten der Toskana zu entmachten. Die Medici sollten durch Francesco de' Pazzi und Girolamo Riario, einen Neffen des damaligen Papstes Sixtus IV. (Francesco della Rovere), ersetzt werden. Das Attentat wurde am 26. April 1478 ausgeführt, jedoch fiel ihm nur Giuliano de' Medici zum Opfer.
