Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Linguistik, Note: 1,7, Freie Universität Berlin (Institut Deutsche und Niederländische Philologie), Veranstaltung: Wortgeschichte und historische Lexikologie und Lexikographie, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit hat das Ziel, eine lexikologische und lexikographische Wortgeschichte des Verbs starren zu erstellen und dabei die entsprechenden Darstellungen in verschiedenen etymologischen Wörterbüchern kritisch zu bewerten. Zunächst wird die Etymologie des Wortes untersucht, um anschließend den Bedeutungswandel im Verlauf der deutschen Sprachperioden zu analysieren. Die Arbeit kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass starren aus dem Zusammenfall zweier althochdeutscher Verben hervorgegangen ist und mit dem Frühneuhochdeutschen eine Erweiterung durch die Bedeutung 'strotzen, voll von etwas bedeckt sein' erfahren hat. Die untersuchten Wörterbücher weichen in ihrer Darstellung sowohl in quantitativer als auch in qualitativer Hinsicht stark voneinander ab, was vor allem auf deren unterschiedliche Zielsetzungen zurückzuführen ist.
