Dieses Stück wurde erstmalig in New York City im Jahr 1962 aufgeführt. Auf den ersten Blick könnte der Zuschauer vermuten, dass es sich bei diesem Werk um eine Darstellung einer gescheiterten Ehe handelt. Doch bei der genaueren Betrachtung von „Who´s afraid of Virginia Woolf?" fällt auf, dass Edward Albee weit mehr anspricht, als eine gewöhnliche Ehekrise. Inhalt dieser Arbeit ist es Albees Intentionen dieses Stücks auf zu denken und näher zu erläutern. Zunächst wird auf die Biographie Albees eingegangen. Daraufhin folgt die Klärung der historischen Situation Amerikas in den 60er Jahren. Hierbei wird der Terminus American Dream aufgegriffen. Den Hauptteil dieser Arbeit bildet die Interpretation des Theaterstücks. Dabei werden die drei Akte einzeln analysiert und mit Albees kritischer Sichtweise in Bezug gesetzt.
