Dazu werden alle Teilaspekte der Interkulturellen Kompetenz betrachtet. Begonnen wird mit dem ersten Aspekt, der Kultur. Der Frage, welches Verständnis von Kultur der Interkulturellen Kompetenz zugrunde liegt, und ob und inwieweit sich der Kulturbegriff im Laufe der Jahre verändert hat, wird in dieser Arbeit nachgegangen. Anschließend soll der Kompetenzbegriff definiert werden. Arnold und Erpenbeck haben ein Modell zur allgemeinen Kompetenzentwicklung entworfen, das Forschungsprogramm COACTIV eines zur professionellen Kompetenz. Beide werden vorgestellt. In dem Modell der professionellen Kompetenz wird dargestellt, was eine Lehrkraft braucht um professionell kompetent in ihrem Beruf zu sein und einen nachhaltigen und positiven Lernerfolg bei ihren Schülerinnen und Schülern zu erzielen.
