Forfatteren kom til verden på Nørrebro i 1959, født af en enlig pillemisbrugende mor, der ikke kan tage vare på sine børn. Hans første leveår er præget af overgreb og misrøgt. Da han er fem år gammel bliver han tvangsanbragt på et børnehjem i Vestjylland, hvor dagens ret er kæft-trit-og-retning og meget lidt kærlighed.17 år gammel forlader han børnehjemmet og tager tilbage til den københavnske stenbro. Det er i disse første ungdomsår at han møder canadieren David McTaggart, grundlæggeren af Greenpeace International - et møde der kommer til at få afgørende betydning for forfatterens liv.Forfatteren er med til at grundlægge Greenpeace i Danmark og en række andre lande, og han bliver en af hovedmændene bag mange af 1980'ernes spektakulære aktioner mod hvalfangere, og dumpning af kemisk- og radioaktivt affald.Denne første del af forfatterens erindringer, fortæller om hans svære opvækst og hans store engagement i den internationale miljøkamp.
