Neben den Eigenbedarf werden ungefähr 1 Million Hektoliter für den Verkauf produziert, wobei auf jeden slowenischen Staatsbürger ein Jahresverbrauch von ca. 40 Liter Wein beläuft.Slowenien ist in drei Weinbauregionen mit vierzehn Weinbaugebieten und unterschiedlichen Rebsorten eingeteilt, wobei neben den bekannten und renommierten auch sog. weniger bekannte, autochthone Rebsorten gezüchtet werden wie z.B. Furlanski Tokaj, Rebula, Malvazija, Laški Rizling, Šipon, Ranina, Refošk bzw. Teran etc.
