Després de més de tres-cents anys de la Guerra de Successió, la dicotomia d'una Cervera filipista o austriacista continua sent tema de controvèrsia. Aquest treball d' investigació dona a conèixer què va passar a Cervera durant el conflicte, any per any, s'hi ha reconstruït l'aspecte militar (allotjaments, governadors, despeses dels exèrcits, punt geogràfic d'interès militar), l'aspecte administratiu (les obligacions de la paeria independentment si estava sota la directriu filipista o el domini austriacista), l'aspecte social (existència de partidaris d'ambdós bàndols, quins grups socials aglutinaven un i l'altre bàndol) i l'aspecte econòmic (repercussions a l'agricultura, les finances del comú i particulars) d'entre altres.
