Does life seem unfair and unnecessarily tough sometimes? What does it mean to win? Is it only the final outcome that decides whether I am a hero or a zero?
A good life is neither the one which has no challenges, nor the one where we always achieve the desired outcome. Rather, a good life is one where we appreciate the simple joys of life, find happiness despite things not going our way, give our best even though we may get nothing in return, discover our strengths in our weakest moment and find courage to stand up after every fall. We win when we learn, grow and thrive through our difficult times. Whether its financial problems, job loss, relationship issues or medical situations, every difficult situation is a way to test our mettle. How we deal with these situations eventually decides how we fared in the test.
So, when one fine day, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer, my world turned upside down. I went through multiple highs and lows and a series of emotions. At the same time, this situation taught me very powerful lessons. I learned to:
-Value the simple pleasures of life - that's where the real happiness is
-Put a pinch of positivity on every situation I faced
-Accept life's imperfections (and mine) and yet appreciate and respect it
-Change my perspective and thereby change my narrative
