Der Problemnexus zwischen Avantgarde und Faschismus wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit erstmals in bezug auf die spanische Literatur untersucht. Die Frage nach der reaktionären Moderne erschließt einen vergessenen Sektor der Erzählprosa (Giménez Caballero, Borrás, Ximénez de Sandoval, Ros, Obregón). Ohne reduktionistische Thesenbildung verfolgt die Studie anhand der Texte den Prozeß der ideologischen Funktionalisierung avantgardistischer Diskurselemente. Inhaltlich manifestiert sich diese Entwicklung in der Darstellung von Identitätsproblematik und Gesellschaftsbezug. Ausführungen zu Aspekten der faschistischen 'Ästhetisierung' des Politischen beschließen den Band.
