Später, zum ersten Bischof von Babylon ordiniert, soll Abdias dieses Werk in zehn Büchern verfaßt haben, welches jedes das Leben und die Taten jeweils eines der Apostel beschreibt.Im Druck erschien das Buch erstmals 1552 unter der Herausgabe des Wolfgang Lazius mit dem Titel: "Abdiae Babyloniae primi episcopi ab apostolis constitvti, De historia certaminis Apostolici, Libri decem, Ivlio Africano interprete."Es wird heute angenommen, daß das Buch wahrscheinlich zwischen dem 6. und 10. Jahrhundert in Europa entstanden ist. Nichtsdestotrotz enthält es aber wesentlich älteres Material, welches bis in die Antike zurückreicht.
