Ziel dieser in vitro-Studie war es, die antimikrobielle Wirksamkeit von 2%Propolis, 6%HEBP , 17%EDTA und 2% Chlorhexidin gegen Enterococcus faecalis und Candida albicans zu vergleichen.Die für dieses Verfahren angewandte Methode war die Agar-Cup-Methode unter Verwendung von sterilem Hirn-Herz-Infusions-Agar gegen Enterococcus faecalis und sterilem Sabourauds-Agar gegen Candida albicans.Nach der Inkubationszeit wurden die mittleren Hemmhöfe beobachtet und die mittlere Standard-Mittelabweichung für Proben mit Enterococcus faecalis und Candida albicans ermittelt. Bei Proben, die Enterococcus faecalis enthalten, betrug der Standardmittelwert für Propolis , HEBP, Chlorhexidin und EDTA 15,33 mm, 23,00 mm, 19,66 mm bzw. 21,00 mm. Bei Proben, die Candida Albicans enthalten, lag der Standardmittelwert für Propolis, HEBP, Chlorhexidin und EDTA bei 13,33 mm, 20,33 mm, 22,00 mm bzw. 19,33 mm. Es wurde beobachtet, dass Propolis zwar eine gute antimikrobielle Aktivität zeigte, die höchste jedoch bei HEBP auftrat.Diese Studie deutet darauf hin, dass Propolis zwar nicht so vielversprechend sein mag wie bisher angenommen, dass aber HEBP ein gutes Potenzial hat, als Wurzelkanalspülung kommerziell rentabel zu sein, wenn es in invivo-klinischen Studien eine gute Leistung zeigt.
