The Diffaeriens
An ancient Martian civilization that migrated to Earth when a radical shift in the Martian environment made their planet uninhabitable.
Upon arriving, it was soon discovered that certain members of their Caste Society had a natural affinity for Earth's vibrational energy, or H'aaze, allowing them to manipulate various aspects of the planet's physical and ephemeral properties. Once mastered, they used these abilities to shape their new world to their liking while also guiding the development of Earth's primitive, indigenous population.
Once Mankind began to evolve, the Diffaerien, or Fae as they came to be called, became an integral part of their religious and cultural infrastructure, influencing all aspects of Human society. After centuries of Diffaerien and Human coexistence, the Fae King, Klawsin, concluded that such benevolent interaction from his people was keeping their less-evolved cousins from achieving their full evolutionary potential.
To mitigate the damage, Klawsin tasked the Mages, a multi-Caste subset of Diffaeriens society extremely adept at H'aaze manipulation, to utilize their fledgling practice of cross-dimensional travel to search the surrounding Planes of Reality for a suitable Realm in which the Fae could reside. When the ideal Plane was found, Klawsin decreed that all members of the various Fae Castes would reside there. He also set in place numerous Restrictions of Interaction between the Races in the hopes that Humanity would resume their natural evolutionary path free of Diffaerien interference.
Some Diffaeriens rejected the King's decision, having grown quite comfortable with the admiration and esteem with which the humans held them. To prevent these Agitators from disobeying his mandates, Klawsin ordered the creation of The Barrier; a massive field of mystical energy drawn from the H'aaze to block the access points between Earth and The Diffaerien Realm, thus separating the two Planes.
