Tessa Harvey thinks that coming back school after the Christmas Holiday is going to be the same as any other day. But when fate throws her in the path of Elliot Harvey; the school's newest student she's thrown completely off course. The two soon decide to begin a relationship. Something that neither of them knows is the beginning of their lives together. Tess is thrust into the world that she has waited for when she moves into flat she has been preparing for months and starts the job that has been waiting for her. Elliot is a massive help. As time passes and they to draw closer together Elliot prepares to take a leap of faith in proposing to Tess. Excited Tess accepts and she celebrates with her friends and new fiancé. It isn't long before Tess falls pregnant and she and best friend Maggie are due around the same time of year. But Maggie's fiancé is reluctant to take on fatherhood and when Tess's daughter Maria is just one day old Tess find's herself having to be at Maggie's side for the arrival of her twin girls. Tess watches as her life passes her by and she jumps from a career as a photographer to a teacher, she encounters several trials on her path through life. She watches Maria growing but still the relationship with Elliot remains strong. But when Elliot's health takes a turn for the worst he and Tess are shattered by heartbreaking news. As Tess struggles to cope under the pressure her family and best friends Maggie and Amanda try to make it easier for the couple. But when Maggie is suddenly caught in a road accident and Elliot's health fading fast Tess and Maria have to pull together to stay strong for a weak Elliot.
