This book examines the main themes and forces that have contributed to the development of EU-China relations in the last decades, focusing on the economic, technological and high politics dimensions. Particular attention is devoted to those aspects of the relationship (i.e. space cooperation; advanced technology transfers; arms sales, including the debate on the proposal to lift the EU arms embargo on China) which have become a matter of strategic significance
for the United States and its East Asian allies. The book provides the reader with four main features: (i) an updated analysis of contemporary EU-China relations; (ii) an examination of the implications
of the high-tech and security-related elements of the relationship for East Asia's major powers and the United States; (iii) an inquiry into the emergence of the EU as a novel strategic factor in East Asia; and (iv) a discussion of some key trends in global politics.
