Jeff Barnes is the kind of guy anyone would cherish as a friend. Having done his time in Viet Nam, wandered the states a bit, then settles down to a nine to five job in San Diego. Love and respect go hand in hand. He had learned them both with his dealings with dogs, in combat. While the book deals more deeply with Jeff's life; particularly his love life, the strong feelings for his dog is apparent. I might interject here, that the author personally knew a veteran of WWII that swore a dog saved his life twice. Once in Italy and again in German. He wanted to bring the dog home after the war, but the government claimed it was trained to kill and had to be destroyed. He became quite emotional when talking of it, fifty years later. Even for people who only mildly care about animals, the life and loves of Jeff should be comfortable reading. He leads an open lifestyle while showing respect and caring for all those he comes in contact with. Adult reading. Enjoy.
