The Marine Corps Recruiting Command continues to accomplish its recruiting objectives for the Marine Corps despite the current challenges in today's political environment. However, as the war on terror expands, becomes more unpopular, and creates greater demands on the military services, it is highly likely that the tide of public opinion will shift to such a degree that the Marine Corps will begin to struggle to maintain its force requirements. Indications of recruiting woes are evident in Army accession numbers. Army quality indicators have fallen below Department of Defense standards and the service struggles to accomplish its minimum accession requirements. Certain districts within the Marine Corps Recruiting Command have fallen short of minimum requirements and many point to a change in the political landscape as the chief inhibitor. Leaders in the Marine Corps do not accept the notion that Marine recruiters will fail to accomplish their accession requirements within historic quality standards. Marines are different. Marines do not fail. Marines make mission.
