Mandatory Periodic Human Immunodeficiency Virus Screening in the American Military

The practice of mandatory periodic HIV screening of the American military was established in 1985 to protect the force from the threat posed by this infectious agent. Underlying the decision to institute mandatory periodic screening of the force was a set of assumptions which have not been validated over time. The screening regime established in 1985 should be discontinued.
