While conscientious objection in the 20th century has been well documented, there has been surprisingly little study of its role in America's early conflicts. Brock seeks to remedy this oversight by presenting a rich and varied collection of documents--expressing both the objectors themselves as well as the authorities and general public--that shed new light on American religious and military history.
