Content Based Image Retrieval Fundamentals & Algorithms

Digital image collection is increasing rapidly with the development of Internet and with the advent of highly sophisticated image capturing devices like sensors and digital cameras. Efficient image searching, browsing, and retrieval tools are required by the users for various image processing applications. Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is the solution to overcome the disadvantages in retrieval systems, where in the images are indexed by their own visual content, viz., color, texture, shape. An emphasis is given to review shape based CBIR algorithms in this book. A comprehensive review of different CBIR algorithms is also presented. Various CBIR systems available in the literature are compared in terms of the features used for CBIR, advantages and disadvantages are also appended in Annexure-I. CBIR algorithms using SVD, Contourlet Transform, Exact Legendre Moments (ELMs) features are discussed. CBIR algorithm using ELMs and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier is the highlight of this book. This book, therefore, covers basics, concepts, and novel algorithms useful for students and researchers in Image processing in general and CBIR community in particular.
