Facebook, Twitter oder Xing sind längst keine Fremdwörter mehr, auch in den Generationen von 55 Jahren und plus. Laut allfacebook.de hat sich die Anzahl der über 55 jährigen und 45-54 jährigen Nutzer im Jahr 2011 verdoppelt. Im Januar 2012 zählt Facebook von insgesamt 912 Millionen aktiven Nutzern 22,1 Millionen aktive deutsche Nutzer (vgl. http://www.itwissen.info, ). Das ist jeder dritte Deutsche. Der Durchschnittsnutzer verbringt im Monat 15 Stunden und 33 Minuten auf Facebook. 40 Mal wird die Seite im Monat aufgerufen und im Schnitt 23 Minuten dort verweilt (vgl. royal.pingdom.com). Diese Zahlen beinhalten nicht die Zeit, die über die mobile Anwendung in Form der Facebook Appliciation auf Facebook selber verbracht wird, die mit 543 Millionen aktiven Nutzern weltweit im Juni 2012 unter den Smartphone Nutzern jedoch beträchtlich ausfällt. (vgl. http://www.newsroom.fb.com) Somit muss angenommen werden, dass die stattfindenden Interaktionen im sozialem Netz der Online Welt maßgeblich Einfluss auf zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen in der „Offline Welt" haben. Im folgendem soll nun erläutert werden, wie sehr sich die Kommunikationspraktiken auf Online Social Networks wie Facebook auf das zwischenmenschliche Verhalten, besonders das Verhalten in romantischen Beziehungen, im Offline Leben auswirken. Zentrale Frage dieser Hausarbeit lautet, ob und wie sich die Eifersucht in einer Partnerschaft durch die Nutzung durch Facebook verstärkt und in welchem Ausmaß bzw. mit welchen Konsequenzen sie sich zeigt.
