Für Berlin heißt dies nicht nur, als Stadt wieder zusammenzuwachsen; es gilt auch, die bisherigen Barrieren zum Land Brandenburg zu überwinden. Damit hat die Stadt sehr gute Chan cen, sich zu einer der bedeutendsten europäischen Metropolen zu entwickeln. Zugleich ist mit der Entscheidung des Deutschen Bundestages, den Sitz von Parlament und Re gierung in die Hauptstadt Berlin ZU verlegen, die wohl wichtigste Vorgabe für die Ent wicklungsplanung des Landes Berlin erfolgt. Berlin ist, wie es in manchen Publikationen der letzten Zeit manchmal euphorisch hieß, zur "interessantesten Stadt Europas" geworden. In den nächsten zwanzig Jahren stehen ihr gewaltige Veränderungen bevor. Die Stadt ist mit großen Herausforderungen kon frontiert, die sowohl Chancen als auch Risiken beinhalten. Wichtige Aufgaben sind: - Die Umstrukturierung der Wirtschaft im Ostteil der Stadt und im Berliner Umland.
